Before you can design a home you must select a site so the home you design will work with the site.
Choosing a building site is not only one of the most important steps but also one that may be the most difficult.
Location Factor:
Location is far and above the top factor when selecting a lot.
Is the site close to work, shopping, worship centers, medical facilities, friends, schools, and family?
Is the property in or near a flood zone?
- Much investigation and analysis must be conducted to insure no adverse effects from water!
- Visit the site during a rainstorm and observe conditions.
- In addition, visit with neighbors and the public works department of the city as to current conditions during and after rainstorms!
- Check with the city as to current conditions during and after rainstorms!
- Check with the city for any upcoming public works proposals or request for funding to improve or change storm water runoff on your street.
- For sites, in new subdivisions, obtain the storm water plan from the developer.
